We are thrilled to announce that we have an exclusive collection of pillows available at Calypso (online as well as in stores)! The bright white canvas, soft sea greens, and subtle metallics make these pillows a perfect update that will brighten up any room this winter and still look fresh when spring arrives.
To find out more about each design and get a sneak peek at the process, read more after the jump.
This reversible pillow started out in the sketchbook. Both patterns were hand painted with black india ink before being scanned into the computer and put into repeat. The designs were then hand screen printed onto fabric with fiber reactive dye.
The Lattice Shibori Pillow is created by using a modified version of a traditional Japanese shibori technique. The fabric is folded into triangles before dyeing, which creates this unique lattice pattern. We dyed each piece several times to achieve this layered look. Unfolding each piece is a bit like opening a present as the results are always beautiful and different. This reversible design also features a washed metallic gold linen with an appliqué stripe on the ‘back’ of the pillow.
The Watercolor Brushstroke Pillow and the Painterly Stripe Pillow are both hand painted with dye. Each piece is individually painted no two are exactly alike. The Watercolor Brushstroke Pillow has an equally interesting back, featuring a linen with a woven metallic pin-stripe and an appliquéd patch. The Painterly Stripe Pillow has a subtle dip dyed reverse and the front also features a potato printed appliqué.
After all of the fabrics were painted, dyed, and printed in Brooklyn they were sewn into pillow covers in the Garment District of New York. We hope that you can stop by one of the Calypso stores and see these beauties in person!
