International Women's Day 2017

International Women's Day

Today is International Women's Day. Some people are celebrating by participating in A Day Without a Woman, attending a rally or donating to a woman-centric charity. I'm participating by not spending money and by going to a taping of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee tonight.

I am constantly finding encouragement and strength from the women in my life and inspiration from those whom I follow. Working for a woman-owned and run business has also been a formative experience. Rebecca has always reminded me that an idea is always best shared with others and that lifting each other up will always lift you up as well. I hope I'll carry that wisdom with me for the rest of my life.

I wanted to come up with an inspiring list of women that you may not have heard of yet (because of course Malala Yousafzai, Michelle Obama, RBG among others belong on this list too).

Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Big Magic
Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams, hosts of 2 Dope Queens Podcast
Kelly Oxford, author of Everything is Perfect When You're a Liar and #notokay campaign
Audrey Gelman, political consultant and founder of The Wing
My friends, from journalist to business owners to doctors, my friends amaze me every single day
Ana Marie Cox, With Friends Like These Podcast host
Janelle Monáe, political activist, singer and actress
My mom and sister, both small business owners who raised me to be independent

International Women's Day

Karen, RA's Operations & Production Assistant, shares her list as well:
Sheila Hicks is just one female fiber artists who changed the way we view textile art.
Weaver, wife and mother Shelly Sazdanoff comments on the human condition through her weavings (Photo of Shelly by Allison Burt-Tilden)
New York City Ballet dancer Ashley Bouder
If we could all love more like Mother Teresa. "If you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love."

I'd love to hear who inspires you as well. Leave a comment below!
