'How I Get To Sleep' by Rebecca

What makes a good night sleep? It’s different for everyone, but our hope is this series will help you unwind and get more sleep. Taking care of yourself and finding ways to unwind is so important.

I love to sleep! I’ve always been one to go to bed early—even growing up and going to sleepovers, I was the first to fall asleep. I usually get in my pajamas right when I get home! I love to curl up on the couch and watch some television, paint, or read in the evenings. I’m usually in bed around 9:30, and asleep by 10 pm.

My bedtime routine is pretty simple. I always try and remember to stretch before bed, but truthfully it doesn’t usually happen. It is such a nice way to unwind though. Note to self, do this more! I’ll brush my teeth and then wash my face with Tata Harper’s Nourishing Oil Cleanser, and then apply face oil and eye cream. My sister recently gave me a bottle of Vintner’s Daughter, which is a splurge, but it’s been amazing for my dry winter skin! I’m hooked.

My nightstand has a lamp, a stack of books, cat treats, and a few beauty products.

My husband and I usually give our two cats treats before going to bed. It’s incentive to get them on the bed and has become part of the routine. They get a little bit greedy about treats which always makes us laugh. Greenies are there favorite.

After that, I usually use a thick body cream on my feet, hands, and elbows because my skin is dry. Currently, I’m using this one. I also always apply some Rosebud Salve to my lips. If I’m not completely ready to fall asleep I’ll pick up a book. I’m almost always reading something business related, but making an effort to add in more fiction because I really enjoy it. Usually, I only make it through a few pages before I’m fast asleep.

If he’s not working late, my husband will “tuck me in” since he’s more of a night owl and I’m an early bird.

Our bedroom is dark and cozy. It doesn’t get a lot of natural light, but that’s ok since it’s a room for sleeping. The walls in our bedroom are a soft pink hue which gives it a warm glow. One wall is covered in curtains in our Petals fabric in Taupe to create a closet. The two windows have roman shades made from our Speckled fabric in Taupe. Naturally, I’m always changing up the bedding and layering. I love the softness of our bedding—and especially how it washes. I prefer a slightly rumpled and relaxed look. Everything was designed so that you can throw it on the bed without tucking it all in perfectly and have it look nice.
